SubConn has developed a "Glass Sphere" modification for their bulkhead connector and penetrator products to meet the challenges associated with installing connectors and penetrators in glass.
For the larger 17" OD glass spheres, we offer the "GS" modification. This modification includes the following changes to our design:
- The face "O" ring is increased in size and moved further away from the post
- A recess is cut into the threads at the neck of the post and flange
- The threaded post is lengthened to 1 1/8" to allow for the thickness of the glass sphere and room for a nut and washer.
These modifications reduce the potential problems associated with spalling of the glass around the hole penetration and makes it easier to locate the post in the hole and tighten it against the "O" ring.
These modifications are available for the entire SubConn bulkhead and penetrator product line in the various materials required.
For the smaller 12" OD glass spheres, we offer an additional modification of cutting a 6" radial cut into the "O" ring face flange. This matches the curvature of the smaller glass sphere and eliminates the need to machine a flat on the surface of the sphere.
Please indicate if you need the "GS" modification at time of order placement.
